Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom City of Edinburgh Council Full time

Job Overview

Child Welfare Services

Senior Practitioner Role
City of Edinburgh Council

Salary: £42,000 - £50,000,
Hours: 36 per week

At the City of Edinburgh Council, we are dedicated to ensuring that every child and young person receives the best possible opportunities in life. Our mission is to ensure that children in Edinburgh are safe, healthy, nurtured, educated, active, and respected. Our child welfare teams operate within a locality service delivery model, dividing Edinburgh into four distinct geographical areas. These teams are essential in providing support to children, young people, and their families during challenging times.

The successful candidate will be responsible for fulfilling the comprehensive statutory responsibilities of a Senior Practitioner. This includes working with children and young people who require protection, are Looked After, or are classified as children in need, along with their families and caregivers. The role involves employing strength-based and restorative practices to engage with children, families, and caregivers, fostering positive relationships, identifying their needs for safety, and implementing plans that enhance the wellbeing of children, young people, and their families.

This position is classified as regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act. The preferred candidate will need to enroll in the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. If an individual has spent a continuous period of three months or more outside the UK in the last five years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be necessary. This check must be provided by the candidate. An unconditional job offer and commencement in the role will be contingent upon the satisfactory outcome of these pre-employment checks.

We are committed to fostering a workplace culture where all individuals feel valued, included, and empowered to perform at their best. We recognize the advantages that a diverse workforce, with varied values, beliefs, experiences, and backgrounds, brings to our organization.

To enhance our organizational culture and create an excellent work environment for the people of Edinburgh, we aim to attract the most suitable candidates not only based on their skills and experience but also on their work approach.

To facilitate this, we are transitioning from a competency-based interview method to a behavioral and technical (job-specific skills) interview approach. This new interviewing format will enable us to evaluate how candidates think and how they embody Our Core Values of Respect, Integrity, and Flexibility in their work practices.
