About the Role

The Thales Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Flight Test Engineer to lead the planning and execution of Unmanned Air Systems (UAS) flight trials. As a key member of the Thales Unmanned Air Systems Trials and Training Centre team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and successful conduct of flight trials, while also providing leadership and management to junior team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Flight Trial Planning: Plan and coordinate UAS flight trials, considering requirements, certification, airworthiness, and safety and risk management.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze flight trial data and write comprehensive reports, including Post Flight Reports and Flight Test Reports.
  • Leadership and Management: Provide leadership and management to one or more junior Flight Test Engineers, ensuring the successful execution of flight trials and the development of team members.
  • Strategic Planning: Assist the Head of Air T&E and Head of Flying in strategic planning of flight trials, and in writing flight test governance documents, processes, and procedures.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduate Flight Test Engineer of a recognized Test Pilot School, or equivalent qualifications/experience as an FTE.
  • Experience: Significant flight trials experience as an FTE, including all aspects of flight test planning, conduct, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Skills: Excellent English language written and spoken communication skills, aeronautical engineering and/or aerospace graduate background, and high-level skill in using modern software applications and tools.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Qualifications related to manned or unmanned aircraft design, flight operations, or safety and risk management.
