Job Title: Lead Flight Test Engineer

Thales is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Flight Test Engineer to join our Unmanned Air Systems (UAS) Trials and Training Centre team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the planning and execution of flight trials, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our UAS platforms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and conduct flight trials, including the development of trials instructions, risk and hazard assessments, and technical notes.
  • Brief and conduct UAS flight test sorties as part of the GCS test crew.
  • Analyse flight trial data and write post-flight reports, including flight test reports.
  • Assist in the strategic planning of flight trials and the development of flight test governance documents, processes, and procedures.
  • Provide leadership and management to junior flight test engineers.
Requirements:
  • Graduate flight test engineer of a recognised test pilot school or equivalent qualifications/experience.
  • Proven ability to plan, manage, and conduct flight trials, analyse flight test data, and write flight test reports.
  • Excellent English language written and spoken communication skills.
  • Aeronautical engineering and/or aerospace graduate background with knowledge and understanding of all aspects of flight test.
  • Ability to lead and manage junior personnel as part of a team.
  • High level of skill in using modern software applications and tools, particularly in analysing and presenting data gained in flight test.
Desirable:
  • Qualifications related to manned or unmanned aircraft design, flight operations, or safety and risk management.
  • Flight trials experience on UAS platforms.
  • Experience of working under MAA regulation, particularly within the Contractor Flying Approved Organisational Scheme (CFAOS).
