Position Overview

The Investor Relations team within the Investment Directorate is dedicated to positioning the UK as the premier destination for international investors. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues across various governmental departments and engage with top-tier international investors to facilitate significant investments in the UK. The role requires adept interaction with senior stakeholders to effectively influence investment decisions.

The individual will serve as Co-Head of Capital Investment for North America, advocating for the UK as a leading investment hub to institutional investors, including pension funds, infrastructure funds, private equity firms, asset managers, and developers. This position is crucial in sharing insights from investors, understanding their decision-making processes, and enhancing the UK’s investment landscape to promote economic growth.

Key Responsibilities

The role is instrumental in achieving the Department for Business and Trade's strategic inward investment objectives through targeted engagement aimed at generating new and expanding investment opportunities by:

  • Establishing and nurturing strategic partnerships between the UK Government and major institutional investors from North America;
  • Identifying and facilitating impactful new investment projects in regions of the UK that would yield the highest economic benefits;
  • Collaborating across Whitehall, including the Office for Investment and DBT teams, both domestically and internationally, to advance high-impact projects;
  • Representing the Department for Business and Trade at external engagements to foster client relationships that could lead to investment opportunities and gather insights into investor sentiment.

Success metrics will include the quantity and value of investments influenced by the role, whether through identifying new opportunities, shaping investor decisions, or engaging other teams to enhance value; as well as the number and caliber of senior business relationships actively managed.

Due to the nature of the role, regular travel to London will be necessary, along with occasional international travel.

Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications:

  • Expertise: Demonstrated experience in the financial sector or with institutional investors;
  • Relationship Management: Proven ability to build and sustain relationships with senior global institutions and stakeholders to achieve impactful results;
  • Results-Oriented: Track record of delivering under pressure, with strategic thinking and political acumen, showcasing initiative, resilience, and adaptability;
  • Effective Communicator: Strong communication, networking, and influencing skills to engage senior management from global institutional investors, along with excellent written communication abilities;
  • Leadership: Established history of inclusive leadership and performance management.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with capital markets and the investment strategies of institutional investors;
  • Experience working with the North American market;
  • Background in matrix management or collaboration with teams across various regions;
  • Experience in preparing comprehensive briefings for senior stakeholders;
  • History of organizing high-profile events or visit programs.
