Position Overview

An innovative opportunity has emerged within NHS Suffolk and North East Essex ICB for a dedicated and proactive Pharmacy Technician to engage in a hybrid role concentrating on both High-Cost Drugs (HCD) and Medicines Optimisation. Previous experience is not mandatory as comprehensive peer support and professional growth will be provided to ensure success in this diverse and demanding position.

We promote a flexible working environment that includes remote, practice, and office-based settings to enhance team performance. There are no requirements for evening, weekend, or bank holiday shifts, and requests for part-time hours will be evaluated.

You will collaborate closely with the HCD Pharmacist to facilitate the execution of HCD initiatives across our Acute Trusts, undertaking various tasks that promote the safe and economical use of HCD. Additionally, you will partner with the Medicines Optimisation team to assist practices in achieving high-quality, cost-effective prescribing.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Making informed decisions during your duties while seeking guidance and escalating issues as necessary.
  • Assisting in the execution of project plans and workstreams as directed by your line manager, while promptly addressing any delivery issues.
  • Supervising less experienced team members.
  • Providing technical assistance in the implementation and execution of a monitoring strategy to manage expenditures on NHS payment scheme excluded high-cost drugs (HCDs) and medical devices.
  • Offering technical support during the annual Horizon Scanning process.
  • Assisting with the implementation of NICE technical appraisals, new guidelines, pathways, and action plans.
  • Overseeing daily operations and supporting the processing of funding requests for both initiation and continuation of HCDs and medical devices within established timelines, adhering to locally agreed pathways, policies, and procedures.
  • Challenging clinicians when requests for HCDs deviate from locally agreed pathways.
  • Providing guidance for HCD-related inquiries and complaints, ensuring all queries and responses are documented for future reference.

In this role, you will support the High Cost Drugs Team in all facets of monitoring funding requests for NHS payment scheme excluded medicines and medical devices. This includes:
