Position Summary
The Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of components and subassemblies sourced from our global supply chain. This position requires close collaboration with team members to enhance supplier quality and delivery performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide essential quality assurance support for new product introductions within the supply chain, monitoring and reporting on suppliers' Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) programs.
- Develop and maintain inspection plans for incoming components, and review and approve suppliers' Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and Part Submission Warrant (PSW) submissions, ensuring proper documentation is maintained.
- Assess the capabilities of new and existing component vendors to ensure they can produce defect-free components at the required volumes.
- Coordinate the seamless launch of new products from the supply chain.
- Collaborate with under-performing suppliers to implement improvement initiatives, minimizing the risk of production shortages and disruptions to sales volumes.
- Review and approve PPAPs promptly, maintain records, and update departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Organize internal and external measurements and data analysis to validate PPAPs as necessary.
- Create and maintain inspection plans for incoming parts and expedite supplier 8D reports for nonconforming parts.
- Lead root cause analysis with suppliers as needed, verifying the effectiveness of corrective actions.
Qualifications & Experience
- A degree in Engineering or a recognized Quality Management qualification.
- Certification as an ISO 9001 auditor, preferably as a lead assessor.
- Previous experience in Supplier Quality within automotive manufacturing, aerospace, or defense sectors.
- Proven experience in New Product Introduction (NPI) and managing suppliers to meet quality requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
- Strong leadership, influence, and support skills, with a positive approach to challenges.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively.
- Familiarity with IATF 16949 and Core Tools.
- Proficient in quality tools and methodologies, including Global 8D, Ishikawa, 5-Why, and Pareto analysis.
- Knowledgeable in metrology, inspection methods, and equipment, with a working understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Ability to interpret 3D CAD and 2D drawings accurately.
- Strong data presentation skills and the ability to plan and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Willingness to travel as needed to engage with suppliers.
