An exciting opportunity has emerged for a qualified and experienced Biomedical Scientist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, to take on the role of Healthcare Scientist Team Manager within the Haematology and Blood Transfusion department. This department operates within a modern healthcare facility, offering excellent transport connections.

The laboratory delivers essential Haematology and Transfusion services to both acute and community healthcare settings. Recently, the department has integrated advanced equipment for Haematology through a managed service contract aimed at achieving full automation and is preparing to introduce new transfusion analysis systems. Compliance with Blood Safety and Quality Regulations is a priority, and efforts are underway to achieve ISO 15189 accreditation.

Key Responsibilities:
You will oversee and coordinate daily technical operations, ensuring adherence to quality standards while providing expert guidance to both service users and colleagues. Your responsibilities will also encompass:

  • Line management and staff training
  • Service development initiatives
  • Health and safety compliance
  • Quality oversight for the Specimen Reception area of the Blood Sciences laboratory

The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s degree in Biomedical Science or an equivalent qualification, such as Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science, and have substantial post-registration experience in a hospital Haematology Laboratory. Alternatively, candidates currently working at band 7 with management responsibilities may also be considered. This position requires participation in out-of-hours shifts, including public holidays, as dictated by service needs; however, as a Team Manager, you will not be required to join the out-of-hours rota.

Qualifications:
MSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent qualifications. Candidates working towards these qualifications may be considered under Annex 21.
