Position Summary
The Category Manager role is a vital part of our Global Procurement & Supply Chain team, reporting directly to the Head of Procurement. This position is responsible for managing both strategic and operational elements of sourcing various product categories within the Pharmaceutical industry, including Excipients, Laboratory Equipment, APIs, and Packaging, ensuring alignment with the needs of internal stakeholders in a regulated environment.
The successful candidate will spearhead initiatives aimed at optimizing the value chain and enhancing collaboration with internal teams and suppliers to drive business growth, cost efficiency, and supply security.
Key Responsibilities
In this multifaceted role, you will be tasked with:
- Leading the global sourcing strategy for the category, collaborating across functions, regions, and manufacturing sites to define and respond to business requirements.
- Managing a team of Category Procurement Specialists.
- Developing and coordinating strategic sourcing teams responsible for global sub-categories.
- Establishing best practices in procurement and talent management to ensure a consistent pipeline of opportunities.
- Setting and implementing the sourcing strategy to achieve short, mid, and long-term objectives while driving continuous process improvements and value creation.
- Identifying and mitigating risks to quality, service, and cost while ensuring compliance and security of supply.
- Generating and reviewing ideas for cost-saving opportunities, targeting a 3% year-on-year savings goal.
- Collaborating with Manufacturing, Product Development, Regulatory, QC, and Global Supply teams to meet strategic and operational business needs.
- Ensuring operational performance through proactive partnership.
- Conducting market intelligence gathering to maintain competitiveness and transparency with suppliers.
- Managing the complete sourcing process, including commercial negotiations and contract management.
- Leading supplier business review meetings and monitoring global KPIs within the category.
- Overseeing Requests for Information (RFI), Requests for Quotation (RFQ), Supplier Evaluations, and Due Diligence processes.
- Enhancing value through collaborative efforts with multiple internal stakeholders.

- Direct experience with pharmaceutical manufacturing guidelines (GMP) is highly desirable.
- Expertise in various product-related procurement categories within the Pharmaceutical or chemically regulated sectors.
- Comprehensive knowledge of procurement systems and best practices.
- Familiarity with multi-site ERP systems, preferably Oracle.
- Experience leading international procurement initiatives.
- Strong understanding of contractual terms and conditions.
- In-depth knowledge of the supplier market and landscape.
