The Treasury is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead the development and implementation of carbon and energy taxation policies. As the Head of Carbon and Energy Taxation, you will be responsible for providing strategic advice to the Chancellor and Exchequer Secretary on all issues related to carbon and energy taxes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the government's carbon and energy taxation policies, working closely with other government departments and stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic advice to the Chancellor and Exchequer Secretary on carbon and energy taxation issues, including the development of new policies and the review of existing ones.
  • Lead the development of the government's carbon border adjustment mechanism, working closely with HMRC and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the UK's interests at the OECD's Inclusive Forum for Carbon Mitigation Approaches, the OECD's flagship initiative on global decarbonisation.
  • Build collaborative relationships with counterparts and seniors in other government departments, the EU and in businesses, ensuring HM Treasury's decision-making is informed by robust evidence and that the government's objectives and policies are communicated clearly.
About You

The successful candidate will have a passion for leading inclusive teams and grasping complex policy issues, thinking strategically and creatively about how to resolve them. Delivering these optimally through others, and expertly managing relationships with a broad range of different partners. The successful candidate will also have responsibility for providing leadership across the joint tax and the new Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) team.
