London, Greater London, United Kingdom University College London Hospitals Full time

Position Overview

We invite qualified candidates to consider this exciting opportunity. We seek individuals with a strong foundation in Medicine, Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine, or Surgery. The selected candidates will join a senior airway rota, requiring the ability to manage airways autonomously or with confidence while awaiting anaesthetic assistance.

All applicants must meet the criteria for full GMC registration.

Essential qualifications for this role include full MRCP or MRCS (or equivalent qualifications) for physicians and surgeons, Primary FRCA or equivalent for anaesthetists, and MCEM or equivalent for Emergency Medicine practitioners.

Trainees based in the UK who are looking for out-of-programme experience in Critical Care Medicine are encouraged to seek prior approval for Out of Programme Training from the relevant Royal College.

Previous experience in critical care is essential, as the role involves general critical care responsibilities. Prospective candidates are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

This position provides the opportunity to engage in a diverse range of adult general intensive and high dependency care within a busy mixed medical/surgical ICU/HDU, managing over 2,500 patients annually.

The hospital serves as a tertiary referral centre for various medical specialties, including Infectious & Tropical Diseases, Thoracic Medicine, Acute Stroke, Oncology, and Haematology, as well as surgical services such as Upper GI, Endocrine, Head & Neck, Urology/Andrology, Gynaecology, and Colorectal.

Additionally, the Trust operates a busy maternity unit, collaborating with obstetric colleagues to manage high-risk pregnancies. We also provide referral services for complex haematological and rheumatological conditions, exposing you to cases that are often rare in other settings.
