About System Safety

System Safety is an international engineering, design and advisory company that supports clients in progressing towards sustainability and digitalization.

We are a team of 19,000 devoted experts within the fields of infrastructure, industry and energy, operating across the world to create sustainable solutions for future generations.

Our Energy Division

Our Energy Division employs over 2,000 experts with a presence across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas. We are organized into five competence areas: thermal and renewable, hydro-electric, nuclear, transmission and distribution and contracting.

Job Description

We offer a challenging career path in one of the world's leading energy industry consultants.

Due to the growth of our business, we have a new opportunity for an Experienced Scientist, Engineer, or Mathematician to join our expanding team of Safety and Reliability specialists in our Nuclear Business Unit.

The successful candidate will assist with the development and implementation of a variety of projects in nuclear safety and reliability services for a wide range of domestic and international clients.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct hazard identification techniques and safety and hazard analysis.
  2. Perform quantified risk assessment and engineering design substantiation.
  3. Develop and implement option studies and plant and site licensing.
  4. Produce, review and update safety case documentation.
  5. Manage and develop new and existing client relationships.
  6. Manage small and larger scale projects.
  7. Mentor emerging talent.

Requirements

We are looking for Engineers who are enthusiastic and passionate. It would be great if you had some of the following skills, but don't worry if you don't tick every box, we'll help you develop along the way.

A Bachelor's or Master's Science or Engineering degree in a relevant STEM subject. We undertake a lot of complex analysis, a good proportion of which is numerical, so we are looking for people with an aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis, including statistics, and the ability to pay attention to detail and preferably use MS Excel proficiently.

Virtually all the work we do requires team working, so if you have good communication skills and the ability to collaborate well with others within a project team and wider office environment, you will fit in well.

We are also looking for the ability to explain complex information in a clear and logical way verbally in English and using both Word and PowerPoint.

Due to the sensitive classification of the work, this position is only available to British nationals who have the ability to hold the appropriate level of UK security clearance for projects. You will have knowledge of the nuclear sector and will be working in a commercial environment against budgets and deadlines, so you will need to be able to think for yourself, be proactive, and have a business-oriented mindset.

We work with clients across the UK, so a willingness to work away from your home office on UK projects for extended periods of time or abroad involving short stays is welcome.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in system safety analysis, including fault tree analysis and event tree analysis.
  • Track record of delivering technically challenging projects.
  • Experience working on projects in the nuclear industry.

Additional Information

We value a healthy work-life balance and are committed to your wellbeing. We are open to flexible working arrangements, including part-time, flexible working patterns, and we operate a hybrid working environment.

We offer a competitive salary and an excellent range of benefits, including 25 days holiday each year, private medical insurance, life assurance, and a pension scheme.
