Key Responsibilities

The role of the Process Safety Lead Engineer is crucial for ensuring safe and dependable operations. The individual will be responsible for establishing, defining, and executing the strategy to align with both business and industry standards.

The successful candidate will offer specialized knowledge in technical safety and process safety, focusing on enhancing process safety, plant integrity, reliability, and compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks. Strong communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels are essential, along with a high level of emotional intelligence.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Formulate and agree upon the technical safety and process safety strategy, acting as the process owner and advocate throughout the organization.
  • Oversee the process safety performance metrics, ensuring continuous improvement and effective measurement.
  • Provide expert guidance on identifying hazards and risks associated with modifications to plant and equipment, serving as a subject matter expert (SME) and advocate for Management of Change.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Facilitate Root Cause Analysis and serve as an SME for technical safety issues.
  • Manage and/or facilitate essential technical safety assessments such as HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, and OBRA.
  • Act as an SME for investigations into technical safety incidents.
  • Educate, mentor, and develop colleagues in process safety principles, serving as a technical resource within the organization.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Possesses a degree in engineering or a related technical field, or has equivalent industry experience.
  • A background in chemical engineering is advantageous.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills and the ability to influence at all organizational levels, while being a collaborative team player with high emotional intelligence.
  • Brings experience from the power sector or a related field, with in-depth knowledge of High Hazard/COMAH sites and associated technical risks.
  • Holds expertise in Health, Safety, Environment, Engineering, technical safety, and Process Safety.
  • Able to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in managing small operational and capital budgets, and collaborating with technical consultants.
