Hybrid working arrangements are available, with an expectation of being onsite at least two days per week.

Key Responsibilities

The Financial Support Officer will assist the Finance Business Partners and Management Accountants in delivering comprehensive financial guidance and support to budget managers, ensuring optimal patient care within the constraints of available resources.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the preparation of monthly Management Accounts for the Division according to a set schedule.
  • Supporting the Finance Business Partner and divisional finance team in financial reporting for designated departments or divisions, focusing on financial status, budgeting, and efficiency.
  • Aiding in the development of budgets for specific reporting areas.
  • Addressing inquiries from Divisional and Departmental Managers.
  • Facilitating the accurate production of staff listings, budget reconciliations, and financial data to support the Division's financial standing.
  • Preparing and entering actual and budget journals into the ledger system to ensure proper recording of expenditures.
  • Analyzing and resolving discrepancies within Supplies and Payroll systems, taking corrective actions as necessary.
  • Maintaining the Division's billing schedules and ensuring annual income adjustments are made.
  • Raising and canceling invoices as requested, ensuring all queries are addressed.
  • Calculating and notifying payroll regarding necessary deductions or additional payments.
  • Assisting in the preparation of both monthly and ad hoc management reports, including contributions to the Trust's board report.
  • Conducting variance analysis to provide insights to budget managers and Finance Business Partners.
  • Supplying financial data to enable Finance Business Partners to generate monthly Division Finance Reports, including recovery strategies.
  • Creating and maintaining spreadsheets and databases to ensure accurate and reliable analysis.
  • Contributing to the Trust's annual budget-setting process, including the creation of the budget documentation.
  • Performing pay costing for Divisions.
  • Meeting with budget holders to review financial positions, confirm staffing levels, and discuss variances while ensuring compliance with processes and governance.
  • Developing and nurturing positive working relationships with budget holders to enhance understanding of their financial implications.
  • Assisting in the preparation of year-end accounts, including analysis of creditors and debtors.
  • Supporting and participating in stock takes for annual accounts.
  • Collaborating with Senior Management Accountants and Management Accountants to evaluate current practices and recommend improvements.
  • Assisting in the creation of procedural documentation for Finance Management and maintaining specific task notes to facilitate coverage during absences.
  • Providing support to colleagues as needed and covering for absent team members within Financial Management.
  • Focusing on continuous professional development within the role.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Proficiency in spreadsheet and system design to validate large data sets, minimize errors, and ensure compliance with financial timelines and procedures.
  • Familiarity with accounting software applications.
  • Experience in advising non-financial managers on financial matters.

Desirable

  • Experience with Oracle Financial Accounting software.
  • Knowledge of business reporting tools.
  • Experience in addressing inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders.

Educational Requirements

Essential

  • AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Minimum Grade C at GCSE in English and Maths or equivalent.
  • Experience in a management accounting environment, encompassing all aspects of production while adhering to established financial protocols.

Desirable

  • Previous experience within the NHS.
