Position Overview

Are you a dedicated and skilled Orthopaedic Casting Specialist eager to enhance patient outcomes?

NHS Professionals Limited is currently in search of a proficient Orthopaedic Technician to deliver exceptional care within the Orthopaedic Outpatients sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute casting procedures for various fracture types.
  • Skillfully position and shape casts for optimal fracture support.
  • Perform serial casting for conditions such as idiopathic toe walking, Perthes Disease, and spinal deformities.
  • Provide casting services for pediatric patients with Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH).
  • Implement wedging techniques for cast adjustments.
  • Conduct removal of K wires as necessary.

Job Duties

  • Deliver patient-focused casting services for orthopaedic outpatients.
  • Perform a comprehensive range of plaster techniques, including both routine and complex applications, as well as specialist and synthetic casts, resting/functional splinting, and focused rigidity casting.
  • Support patients throughout the casting process, ensuring they receive appropriate guidance regarding the care of their casts and splints.
  • Collaborate closely with the Senior Plaster Technician and registered Nurses for enhanced support.

Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications

  • BOA/RCN (SON) AOT Diploma in casting techniques or British Casting Certificate.
  • A willingness to expand your role and skills to meet the needs of children and families in the plaster room.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology relevant to orthopaedics.
  • Ability to work effectively as an empowered member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Awareness of professional responsibilities in patient management and treatment.

  • Experience in an acute hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm, flexibility, and commitment to a team-oriented approach.
