About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Band 6 Specialist Oncology Nurse to join our team at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Acute Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients with complex oncology needs.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in oncology nursing, with experience in managing patient caseloads, ordering diagnostic tests, and interpreting results. You will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

As a Band 6 Specialist Oncology Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering a seamless service through the development of enhanced Multidisciplinary team processes and communication. You will also participate in the identification and development of clinical protocols and strategies to enhance both the continuity and standard of specialist care while ensuring equity of access to the service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a patient caseload, including ordering diagnostic tests and interpreting results
  • Deliver a seamless service through the development of enhanced Multidisciplinary team processes and communication
  • Participate in the identification and development of clinical protocols and strategies to enhance both the continuity and standard of specialist care
  • Work collaboratively with the UGI MDM and other MDTs to ensure equity of access to the service
  • Ensure all care is given in accordance with agreed protocols
  • Provide support and education to patients and their families
  • Regularly review clinical notes of patients requiring imminent admission to ensure a smooth admission process
Person Specification
  • Relevant post-registration qualification and evidence of professional development
  • Educated to Degree level
  • Chemotherapy course and competency (SACT Passport)
  • NMC registration
  • Breaking bad news training
  • Advanced communication training
Working Arrangements

This is a fixed-term contract for 10 months, working full-time hours. The successful candidate will be based at King's College Hospital/Princess Royal Hospital - Cross Site.
