About this role
We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Animal Behaviour Specialist to join our team at Dogs Trust. As a Behavioural Consultant, you will play a vital role in enhancing the welfare of dogs and empowering their owners.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist behaviour consultations for dogs with behaviour problems, including human-directed aggression.
- Liaise with dog guardians and provide follow-up support to help keep behaviour modification plans on track.
- Deliver behaviour services, clinical consultations, and assessments through in-person and virtual means.
- Complete all necessary paperwork associated with running behaviour consultations, including writing reports and liaising with referring veterinarians.
- Support our mentorship programme, which aims to develop the next generation of behaviour experts, and act as a mentor throughout the organisation, assisting in the professional development of behaviour specialists and Dogs Trust staff towards national standards of accreditation in clinical animal behaviour.
- Play an active role in designing, assessing, and delivering education material.
About you
We are looking for an individual with an animal behaviour or welfare qualification at degree level or above. You will have a thorough, in-depth knowledge of dog behaviour, training, and welfare. Ideally, you will be accredited as a Certificated Clinical Animal Behaviourist (CCAB) with CCAB Certification Ltd or as a Clinical Animal Behaviourist with the Animal Behaviour and Training Council, acquired CCAB Pre-Certification, or have qualifications and clinical experience of an equivalent standard.
You will have extensive experience of working in the field of dog behaviour and welfare, along with practical, hands-on experience of handling and applying welfare-based behaviour modification, training, and rehabilitation techniques for dogs with a range of problem behaviours. A skilled communicator, you will have excellent counselling skills, with the ability to express behaviour modification techniques in clear, understandable language - both verbally and in writing.
About this team
The Community Clinical Animal Behaviour team sits within the Clinical Behaviour Services department and provides an affordable and accessible route for obtaining professional and qualified behaviour support services for dog owners across the UK. Operating in areas where there is limited access to appropriate, qualified behaviour support, and/or where the capacity of established private clinical animal behaviourists cannot meet demand, the team plays a vital role in preventing the escalation of unwanted behaviour issues.
The team's aim is to work with and educate pet guardians about their dogs' behaviour and provide practical interventions to prevent relinquishment to rehoming charities and euthanasia.
About Dogs Trust
We love dogs. That's why we do whatever we can to make sure every four-legged friend gets the love they deserve. We'll never put a healthy dog down, so our work is focused on helping dogs in need, supporting their owners every step of the way, and creating a better world for dogs in the future.
