Sustainable Talent LTD - SHEQ Advisor Job Description

Reports to: Divisional Head of Sustainability

Job Purpose:

  • Provide guidance and support to the business in relation to compliance with sustainability management systems and regulatory requirements.
  • Coach and mentor employees on the use of sustainability management systems.
  • Monitor and review the implementation of sustainability management systems through audits and inspections, challenging the effectiveness and suitability of risk controls.
  • Contribute to improving the sustainability culture throughout the business and support the business in striving for sustainability excellence.
  • Support the Divisional Head of Sustainability in executing their roles and responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert advice on sustainability management systems and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and implement sustainability policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Conduct audits and inspections to ensure compliance with sustainability management systems.
  • Identify and mitigate risks to the business.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on sustainability management systems.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to improve sustainability performance.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies.

Requirements:

  • NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (minimum).
  • IOSH membership at an appropriate level (e.g. Tech IOSH).
  • Relevant internal auditor qualifications.
  • Environmental awareness.
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role, ideally within the utilities and infrastructure or construction industry.
  • Theoretical and practical sustainability expertise.
  • Exposure to the application of sustainability policies, processes, and legislation.
  • Project or programme safety planning, implementation, and compliance assessments.
  • Implementing and monitoring sustainability management systems.
  • Viewing and updating risk assessments and method statements.
  • Effective coaching and influencing/supporting internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
  • Effective support for all levels of operational staff.
  • IT skills, including MS Office (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and unsupervised, as well as being able to work effectively as part of a team.
