Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Biologist with cryo-EM experience to join our team at GSK. As a key member of our UK Structural & Biophysical Sciences group, you will contribute to the discovery of new medicines and vaccines by applying your expertise in electron microscopy and structural biology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality structural biology results as part of integrated cross-discipline teams to support drug discovery project decisions.
  • Design and execute experiments to address critical program questions using structural and biophysical approaches.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of our cryo-EM infrastructure, including the operation of EM facilities and computational structural biology infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to build a collaborative environment and advance the application of structure and biophysics in drug discovery.
Requirements
  • PhD in a biological, biochemical, or physical sciences discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of single-particle cryo-EM, including protein purification, data processing, and structure interpretation.
  • Exceptional track record of success and expertise in one or two specific areas of cryo-EM.
  • Experience with high-resolution data-collection microscopes and software development.
  • Excellent organisation, interpersonal, communication, and team working skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with cryo-EM sample preparation and optimisation, including cross-linking and cryo-ET.
  • Expertise in working with challenging systems, including membrane proteins and RNA.
  • Experience in automating single-particle processing or cryo-ET processing.
  • Significant experience in other structural biology or biophysical techniques.
  • Experience of scientific leadership and project coordination.
