Role Overview:

The position of Assistant Operations Engineer (Countywide Maintenance) involves reporting directly to the Operations Engineer and collaborating with a team of highway professionals. The primary goal is to ensure a superior highway service experience for both customers and stakeholders across the county, adhering to key service themes such as:

  • Exceptional Customer Focus

  • Outstanding Performance

Work Environment: The role is primarily based at Cuerden, with the possibility of working at various locations throughout Lancashire.

Key Responsibilities:

This role presents an exciting opportunity to assist in the management of the highways maintenance function, which is often intricate, politically sensitive, and highly visible. You will play a crucial role in supporting the maintenance and enhancement of the highway network, ultimately benefiting residents, visitors, and businesses in Lancashire.

As an individual in this position, you will be expected to manage both human and financial resources allocated to your team. You will need to exercise sound judgment to address daily unforeseen challenges with minimal guidance, all while operating within established procedures. However, significant experience in traffic or highway engineering, particularly in delivering highways maintenance functions, is essential. The role also necessitates the supervision of smaller projects to ensure timely and budget-compliant execution.

Additional Requirements:

A full and valid driving license is required, as you will be expected to operate a Lancashire County Council vehicle.

Application Instructions:

Please ensure that you have uploaded your supporting statement, detailing how you meet the criteria for this role. The selection panel may not be able to shortlist you for an interview without this evidence.

Benefits: Lancashire County Council offers a comprehensive benefits package, including flexible working arrangements, up to 32 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, additional days at Christmas, and the option to purchase extra leave. We provide a generous Local Government pension scheme, along with various benefits ranging from dog care and day care to discounts on electronics and long service awards.
