Job Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a Lead Specialist in Cardiac Rhythm Management within the Cardiac Physiology department at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Our department performs a comprehensive array of Cardiac Rhythm Management procedures, encompassing Electrophysiology (EP) and device interventions.

This role is particularly suited for a current band 7 professional aiming to enhance their leadership and management capabilities while gaining valuable experience in service enhancement.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborating closely with the Head of Cardiac Physiology, the successful candidate will play a vital role in overseeing all Cardiac Rhythm Management services.

The role includes ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, efficient service to patients while supervising, guiding, and supporting staff in their departmental roles.

The candidate will be expected to operate as an independent practitioner in CRM procedures, including EP and/or devices.

We anticipate that the successful applicant will possess the capability to work autonomously and will also be responsible for the training and evaluation of junior staff.

Job Responsibilities

- Lead the management and advancement of the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) service in collaboration with Clinical Service Unit (CSU) Leads and the Head of Cardiac Physiology.

- Independently execute advanced CRM procedures and oversee the training and development of staff to maintain service excellence.

- Work in partnership with the Head of Cardiac Physiology, Directorate Leadership Team, and CSU leads to ensure the efficient operational management of the CRM service.

- Maintain visibility and accessibility to patients and their families, providing overall leadership, direction, and vision for the service.

- Assist the Head of Cardiac Physiology in achieving the objectives and responsibilities outlined in the Directorate strategy.

- Ensure service provision aligns with budgetary responsibilities and meets government targets.

- Supervise and directly manage the Cardiac Physiology multidisciplinary team within CRM.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • BSc in Cardiac Physiology or equivalent.
  • Teaching/mentoring qualification or demonstrable experience.
  • ILS/ALS certification or willingness to undertake training.
  • Extensive experience in CRM-based procedures and investigations.
  • Clinical expertise in patient assessment and history relevant to CRM.
  • Proven leadership and developmental experience at a senior level.
  • Relevant managerial experience within a clinical setting, including HR, Finance, and Clinical Risk/Governance management.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Master’s level/PhD education or commitment to pursue in this role.
  • Managerial qualification.
  • Project management experience.
  • Membership in professional groups such as BHRS.
