Versatile Maintenance Technician - Electrical or Mechanical Focus

Location: Various Sites

Reporting to: Account Manager

Hours: Standard Business Hours

Position Overview

The successful candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of building services, including Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and related systems. As a vital member of the engineering team, you will be responsible for the thorough inspection, operation, and upkeep of all associated MEP assets, emphasizing risk management in critical facilities and enhancing service quality through proficient technical skills.

You will assist the Account Manager in the daily management of MEP operations across various sites, adhering to established processes and procedures.

Your responsibilities will include issuing Permits to Work (PTW) and ensuring adherence to method statements, risk assessments, and health and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure that service visits by specialist vendors are conducted efficiently, with quality checks performed and feedback provided to the on-duty management team.
  2. Accurately document all completed work orders, including detailed records of any critical spare parts utilized.
  3. Provide technical guidance and support to team members and clients.
  4. Participate in scheduled contract meetings.
  5. Compile reports to communicate significant events or activities to the management team as necessary.
  6. Engage in health and safety compliance activities, including reporting hazards and participating in toolbox talks.
  7. Ensure compliance with internal processes and procedures while managing work orders, including maintaining necessary risk management documentation.
  8. Maintain up-to-date site logbooks with relevant documentation.
  9. Coordinate with suppliers for ordering M&E components for maintenance tasks.
  10. Attend training sessions as identified by management.
  11. Conduct site-specific technical assessments and skills gap analyses at defined intervals.
  12. Take ownership of designated areas, ensuring they meet required standards.
  13. Identify and escalate potential risks, providing assessments of impact and mitigation strategies.
  14. Contribute to the continuous improvement of safe work systems, ensuring compliance with health and safety policies.
  15. Complete reactive, planned, and corrective work orders in line with maintenance standards.
  16. Ensure accurate completion of all work orders assigned through the management system, including time tracking and task details.
  17. Occasionally provide quotes for additional or remedial works as required.

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in building maintenance, particularly in critical environments.
  • An Electrical or Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • Level 3 C&G/NVQ certification or higher.
  • Experience with testing and inspection standards (C&G 2391 is a plus).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with all staff levels.
  • A proactive approach to achieving operational excellence.
  • Strong IT and report writing capabilities.
  • The ability to perform under pressure while maintaining composure and clarity.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and a high level of initiative.
  • Advanced communication skills with a keen understanding of customer needs.
  • The ability to follow both verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • A willingness to participate in training programs and work outside standard hours when necessary.
  • Integrity, honesty, and punctuality.
