Responsibilities
In the capacity of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Knowledge Exchange, and Innovation), your responsibilities will include:
- Formulating and executing Birkbeck's long-term research agenda.
- Enhancing research performance and supervising high-quality submissions for assessments.
- Providing leadership and guidance to Birkbeck researchers, staff, and students.
- Upholding the highest standards of research governance and integrity.
- Overseeing the commercialization and impact generation of research initiatives.
- Assisting faculty Heads in developing research activities with substantial economic implications.
- Leading the execution of the Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF).
- Chairing the College's Innovation and Commercialization Board.
- Managing all personnel within the research, innovation, and knowledge exchange sectors.
Candidate Profile
To excel as our Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Knowledge Exchange, and Innovation), you should possess:
- Proven expertise in strategic planning, budget oversight, and project management.
- A successful history of securing funding and identifying future funding opportunities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of compliance and regulatory standards in a university context.
- Significant senior management experience within higher education.
- Experience in managing a Research Selectivity or Research Audit Exercise.
- A successful track record of establishing international research collaborations and partnerships.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in motivating staff and achieving high performance.
- A Professorial title or a CV that meets the Professorial level standards of Birkbeck and the University of London.
Compensation Package
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Knowledge Exchange, and Innovation) will receive a competitive salary on Grade 10 of the College's London pay scale. This position offers a full-time schedule of 35 hours per week, complemented by a flexible working model. The initial appointment is for a 5-year term, with the possibility of renewal, and includes an ongoing professorial role at Birkbeck following the completion of the initial term. Additional benefits include a consolidated weighting/allowance for staff based in Greater London.
