Position Overview
The Social Consultant is responsible for executing social impact evaluations, formulating management strategies, and collaborating with various stakeholders to alleviate negative impacts, ensuring consultancy services adhere to global standards.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct Social Impact Evaluations and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Perform social impact evaluations to assess potential effects of projects on communities and stakeholders.
- Facilitate inclusive engagement processes to collect feedback, address issues, and enhance transparency.
Develop Social Management Strategies:
- Create and implement social management strategies that promote community involvement and sustainable practices.
- Incorporate mitigation measures and enhancement strategies to reduce social impacts and optimize positive outcomes.
Engage with Communities and Stakeholders:
- Collaborate with communities, local authorities, NGOs, and other stakeholders to foster constructive relationships and address social issues.
- Work together to identify and implement strategies to mitigate social impacts, respecting local customs and preferences.
Deliver Consultancy Services in Accordance with International Standards:
- Ensure all consultancy services align with relevant international standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Provide expert advice to clients on fulfilling environmental and social obligations throughout project lifecycles.
Support Proposal Development and Client Interaction:
- Assist in crafting project proposals by contributing knowledge in social and environmental standards and methodologies.
- Engage with clients to understand their sustainability goals, offering customized solutions and support.
Travel for Site Assessments and Documentation Review:
- Travel internationally to project sites for on-site evaluations, documentation analysis, and monitoring of environmental, health, safety, and social factors.
- Document findings and recommendations to guide decision-making and ensure adherence to standards.
Assist with Project Management Tasks:
- Collaborate with project managers to oversee budgets, timelines, and deliverables related to environmental and social considerations.
- Contribute to cross-functional teams, ensuring effective integration of environmental and social factors into project planning and execution.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Sociology, Social Sciences, Anthropology, or a related discipline.
- Experience in social impact evaluations and stakeholder engagement.
- Familiarity with international standards and best practices in social sustainability.
- Experience in environmental assessment methodologies and compliance with project financing environmental and social standards.
- Thorough understanding and application of IFC Performance standards as well as ADB/EBRD/Equator Principles or other international lenders' environmental, social, health, and safety standards, particularly in the context of infrastructure and/or energy sectors.
