Role Overview

We are in search of a seasoned Technical Director to join our team at Zynga. This role involves spearheading the development of our upcoming project utilizing Unreal Engine across mobile and other platforms, building on the achievements of our previous titles. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in architecting and programming large-scale AAA free-to-play games, while also encouraging innovative solutions from team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define the technical architecture for the game on the client side and ensure seamless integration with our server technology.
  • Contribute to the evolution of server technology architecture.
  • Collaborate with product managers and producers to assess feature complexity, plan releases, and deliver timely code solutions.
  • Work alongside Art, UX, and UI teams to enhance tools and processes for content creation, import pipelines, prototyping, production, and testing.
  • Ensure the development of well-structured, adaptable, and testable software for mobile and other platforms.
  • Occasionally architect and produce production-ready code.
  • Mentor Senior and Principal engineers, fostering the growth of future Architects.
  • Promote a technical approach that supports sustainable live operations, regular game updates, and high-quality rapid releases.
  • Manage technical debt effectively.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing across the team and the broader Zynga community.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience in developing and launching multiple games with Unreal Engine, specifically in a technical director or architect capacity, including at least one Game as a Service.
  • Extensive knowledge of C++ and a comprehensive understanding of mobile CPU and GPU hardware.
  • Recognized authority in AAA game architecture.
  • Expertise in various domains, including NPC behavior, AI, multiplayer, UI/UX, meta-game systems, free-to-play mechanics, graphics, tools, systems, and game engines.
  • Strong grasp of design patterns, memory/performance optimization, and the ability to articulate and disseminate knowledge effectively.
  • Experience mentoring engineers at all levels throughout the game development lifecycle.
  • Strategic problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate across disciplines when addressing complex challenges.
  • Capability to present technical challenges, recommendations, and solutions to senior game leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PC and console game projects.
  • Familiarity with server systems and architectures.
  • Background in developing first or third-person shooter games.
