About the Role

VanRath is seeking a highly skilled Research Officer to join our team on an initial interim basis. As a Research Officer, you will work directly with Assembly Members and Committees to produce non-partisan, objective, and evidence-based research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct evidence-based/policy-orientated research requiring an understanding of EU decision making.
  • Produce and deliver briefings based on research requiring an understanding of EU decision making.
  • Provide timely, accurate, high-quality, and impartial research and analysis to individual MLAs, Assembly Committees, and Senior Managers.
  • Present research briefings to Assembly Committees and respond to Committee members' questions in public and closed sessions.
  • Advise Assembly Committees on subject-specific aspects of forward work programmes and inquiries, including input to establishing terms of reference, identifying key issues, and research requirements.

Requirements

  • Hold a second-class honours degree (or equivalent or post-graduate qualification), in which EU decision making was a key component of the degree.
  • Have at least two years of work experience in conducting evidence-based/policy-orientated research requiring an understanding of EU decision making, and producing and delivering briefings based on research requiring an understanding of EU decision making.
  • Have a working knowledge of EU information sources, including official EU databases.
