Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled professional to join our team as a Deputy Director of Quality Governance at Wirral University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Strategic Leadership: Provide high-quality advice and information to the Chief Nurse, Medical Director, and Board of Directors on all matters relating to quality governance.
  • Develop Governance Policies: Develop and influence robust clinical governance policies, procedures, and guidelines at an organisational level.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure compliance with Trust policies, procedures, and guidelines by taking action or alerting the senior management team, if practice appears to contravene policy or have a detrimental impact on patient care.
  • Manage Risk: Be accountable for the effective management and application of the Trust's Risk Management System.
  • Provide Assurance: Provide assurance that clinical quality is embedded at a local level by working in collaboration with the Divisional teams.
  • Lead the Quality Governance Department: Lead and manage the Quality Governance Department by setting high standards, guiding, motivating, and developing the team, to achieve high performance and meet the Trust's objectives and statutory obligations.
  • Manage Departmental Budgets: Effectively manage departmental budgets within Quality Governance and contribute each year to financial planning and savings as required.
Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications, specific experience, and training:

  • Educated at Master's Level: Educated at Master's Level or equivalent qualification or have significant senior management experience working at that level.
  • Substantial Specialist Experience: Substantial specialist experience in the NHS at a senior level in the field of clinical risk management and patient safety.
  • Knowledge of Healthcare Regulatory Bodies: Knowledge and experience of working with one or more of the main healthcare regulatory/assessing bodies e.g. Care Quality Commission, NHS Improvement.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills

We would also like to see the following desirable qualifications and skills:

  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation: Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and practice, relevant to healthcare.
  • Ability to Write Strategy: Ability to write strategy and have a clear understanding of national NHS strategy and policy.
  • Effective Communication Skills: A track record of building effective working relationships with internal colleagues and across other organisations.
