We are seeking a dedicated Band 5/6 Podiatrist to become part of our integrated Podiatry service at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our supportive team, delivering Podiatry interventions and utilizing specialized knowledge to enhance clinical excellence.

Our Podiatry service is committed to an integrated approach, ensuring comprehensive support for our patients and collaboration with colleagues. This role will provide the opportunity to work closely with various community professionals, including nursing and acute care teams.

New graduates will receive guidance through a structured preceptorship program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments, diagnoses, planning, implementation, and evaluation of Podiatric care for a diverse patient population with varying clinical needs, including high-risk patients, diabetes, neuropathy, chronic diseases, wound management, musculoskeletal issues, and individuals with mental health or learning difficulties.
  • Assess and diagnose new patients within community podiatry, developing and completing individualized care plans that may involve local anaesthesia administration, nail surgery, orthotics, wound management, and providing essential foot health education to individuals and groups.
  • Refer patients requiring additional professional intervention or specialist departmental services, adhering to established referral pathways.

Job Duties

  • Function autonomously as a podiatrist while receiving support from senior colleagues.
  • Be professionally accountable for the assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of Podiatric care for a diverse patient population.
  • Conduct annual diabetic foot assessments in line with national guidelines, including vascular evaluations using Doppler ultrasound.
  • Exhibit advanced physical skills and precision hand-eye coordination necessary for surgical techniques and specialized debridement.
  • Perform diabetic foot assessments in accordance with national guidelines, including vascular evaluations.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Podiatry or equivalent qualification.
  • HCPC Registration as a Podiatrist.
  • Local anaesthetic certification.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Willingness to develop competencies to support the community nursing team.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate certificates.

Experience

Essential

  • Post-registration experience.
  • Experience working within the NHS.
  • Experience in creating and evaluating treatment plans.
  • Experience with nail surgery techniques.
  • Experience treating high-risk patient groups.
  • Experience in musculoskeletal assessments.
  • Experience working collaboratively within teams.

Desirable

  • Experience in community settings, including patients' residences.

Skills

  • Understanding of confidentiality and record-keeping practices.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Understanding of the principles of lone working.
