Job Overview:

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Emergency Medical Services Teaching Assistant. This role is integral to the educational framework within the EMS program, designed to enhance the learning experience for students pursuing certification at various levels.

As an Emergency Medical Services Teaching Assistant, you will collaborate closely with lead instructors and the EMS Program Director to facilitate the effective delivery and assessment of essential practical skills in both classroom and laboratory environments. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting in the preparation and dismantling of educational equipment and materials.
  • Monitoring, assessing, and documenting student performance during practical exercises.
  • Maintaining an active presence on campus or designated off-site locations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Delivering EMS program content effectively, particularly in laboratory settings.
  • Participating in national certification preparatory activities.
  • Assisting in the placement of students in practical field experiences.

This position reports directly to the EMS Program Director and the Dean of Health Sciences. It is a part-time hourly role, offering up to 29 hours of work per week without benefits. Flexible scheduling options may be available to accommodate various teaching times, including daytime, evening, and weekend sessions.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • For EMT Teaching Assistant: Valid Virginia and/or National Registry Advanced Emergency Medical Technician certification with an unencumbered license, alongside substantial experience in a high-volume emergency service environment.
  • For AEMT/Paramedic Teaching Assistant: Valid Virginia and/or National Registry Paramedic certification with an unencumbered license, American Heart Association CPR certification, and significant experience as an ALS provider.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior teaching experience in accredited EMS programs or at the community college level.
  • Relevant educational qualifications such as an associate or bachelor's degree in EMS or related fields, along with instructor certifications in advanced life support courses.
