Job Title: Research Assistant/Associate in Cell Biology

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Assistant/Associate to join our team in the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR) at the University of Cambridge. The successful candidate will work with Dr Nick Bright, Professor Paul Luzio, and Professor David Owen on an MRC research project entitled "Organelle remodelling and function of endolysosomes, lysosomes, and secretory lysosomes".

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research in cell biology, focusing on the mechanisms regulating lysosomal pH and the assembly of V-ATPase on endolysosomes and disassembly on reforming lysosomes.
  • Generate plasmid constructs and stably transfected/transduced mammalian cell lines, deplete proteins by knockdown or knockout, and perform confocal fluorescence microscopy, electron microscopy, subcellular fractionation, and biochemical assays.
  • Collaborate with structural biologists to study protein interactions using biochemical methods.
  • Participate in the development of new research projects and contribute to the writing of research papers and grant applications.

Requirements:

  • PhD in cell biology, biochemistry, or a related subject.
  • Excellent knowledge of intracellular membrane traffic and established skills in generating plasmid constructs, stably transfected/transduced mammalian cell lines, confocal fluorescence microscopy, electron microscopy, subcellular fractionation, and biochemical assays.
  • Experience of biochemical methods to study protein interactions and knowledge of using alphafold.
  • Ability to interact with structural biologists and contribute to the development of new research projects.
