Lead Clinical Nurse

Newport, Newport, United Kingdom Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

We are pleased to announce an opening for a Lead Clinical Nurse. This role offers a pathway for clinical advancement for seasoned nursing professionals who are committed to a long-term career in an inpatient setting.

As a Lead Clinical Nurse, you will be expected to provide clinical guidance and inspiration to nurture the development of junior nursing staff, while upholding exemplary professional standards and demonstrating a dedication to both staff growth and patient care. This position is primarily clinical in nature and, while there is a continuous demand for Deputy Ward Managers, this band 6 role will present a distinct set of responsibilities compared to the conventional Deputy Ward Manager position.

We seek a highly driven nursing professional who can exhibit outstanding clinical and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate must be adaptable to a dynamic work environment, possess a positive attitude, and prioritize the delivery of high-quality services that genuinely engage with patients, their families, and other stakeholders.

This is a full-time position ( hours per week) with a schedule that includes a combination of early, late, and night shifts. If there is a strong preference for long day shifts, this can be discussed. Additionally, there will be an expectation to rotate onto night shifts as needed.

The successful candidate may also be required to rotate across various specialty areas and be available to work shifts covering 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Key Responsibilities

You will be expected to possess excellent interpersonal abilities and the capacity to facilitate staff development while demonstrating effective leadership skills. You will uphold and promote high standards of care, while also supporting the implementation of local and national improvement strategies and initiatives.

Inpatient wards/units are structured to address the comprehensive needs of service users/patients and their families, within a work environment that fosters staff development and well-being. The Lead Clinical Nurse will contribute to the operation of the ward/unit by:

- Actively fostering teamwork, respect, integrity, accountability, excellence, and compassion within the clinical team, in alignment with the Trust's values and code of conduct.

- Demonstrating clinical leadership and oversight regarding the clinical practices of others.

- Providing Clinical Supervision to Junior Staff, acting as the shift lead, and conducting clinical audits as necessary.

- Offering nursing leadership within the multidisciplinary team and ensuring effective assessment, formulation, planning, and monitoring of care provided to inpatient service users; including the implementation of meaningful activities for inpatient service users and evaluating the effectiveness of these activities.
