Head of Engineering (Systems and Projects)

Marshall, a leading independent, family-owned British company, is seeking an experienced Head of Engineering (Systems and Projects) to join our team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for driving the development and implementation of our engineering strategy, ensuring the delivery of high-quality products and services to our customers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and lead the transformation of the Systems Engineering function, establishing best-in-class practices throughout the organisation.
  • Lead the implementation of processes and governance to support programme delivery timelines, including gate reviews and independent assurance.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to embed effective systems engineering practices into the fabric of our organisation.
  • Accountability for the engineering schedule and budget, ensuring alignment with overall project and product schedules and allocated cost budgets.
  • Provide strong and inspirational leadership to the Engineering teams, establishing clear lines of communication and ensuring cross-functional teams are integrated into the engineering programme as required.
  • Develop and implement a robust change control process, covering change identification, impact assessment, and implementation, while considering cross-functional impacts into engineering and production and support.
  • Ensure planning activity is embedded as a discipline within the engineering teams, covering resource allocation and cross-functional collaboration to drive efficiency.
  • Be the interface with the customer on all engineering matters within the business line, keeping abreast of engineering advancements and new technology to drive future opportunities.
  • Drive a commercial approach to engineering within the business line, ensuring costs are managed and cost-down initiatives are implemented to drive long-term financial growth.
  • Ensure bid inputs for engineering take account of lessons learned and actual costs for previous projects, supporting the 'go-to-market' strategy.

As a successful candidate, you will have a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams in a product manufacturing and systems engineering environment. You will have a solid understanding of financial management and wider management principles and techniques, as well as insights into new engineering technologies.

We offer a competitive salary and remuneration package, including 27 days' holiday, pension contributions matched up to 9%, private healthcare, and car allowance. The role is based in Cambridge, with the opportunity for hybrid working (approximately 3 days a week in the office).
