Position Overview

AWE is seeking Nuclear Safety Analysts across various levels of expertise, including engineer, senior, and principal roles. Our safety case teams tackle a diverse array of projects, pushing the boundaries of innovation and addressing complex technical challenges. Key areas of focus include:

  • Development of new facilities as part of AWE's extensive Capital Programme
  • Strategic planning for the UK's long-term deterrent systems
  • Extending the operational life of existing facilities
  • Decommissioning outdated facilities
Compensation Package

Competitive salary ranges are offered based on experience:

  • Nuclear Safety Analyst: £35,720 - £53,580 per annum
  • Nuclear Safety Senior Analyst: £44,990 - £71,000 per annum
  • Nuclear Safety Principal Analyst: £58,500 - £92,000 per annum

Role Responsibilities

As a Nuclear Safety Analyst, you will provide expert guidance in evaluating nuclear, explosive, and other significant hazards related to various facilities and equipment. Candidates should have experience in multi-disciplinary projects and familiarity with:

  • Conducting risk assessments and safety justifications for diverse facilities
  • Advising on the development of safety assessments
  • Completing complex safety analyses and documentation

Nuclear Safety Principal Analysts will lead the development of safety assessments and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Responsibilities include:

  • Managing technical input for key safety documentation
  • Delivering safety assessments for innovative project initiatives
  • Collaborating with process owners to maintain compliance with current standards
  • Providing technical training and mentoring to junior analysts
Qualifications

All candidates must possess a degree in a science or engineering discipline or equivalent vocational qualifications, along with extensive practical experience. Professional membership in a relevant chartered body is desirable. Specific skills and experience may include:

  • Nuclear Safety Analysts: Experience in safety assessment for radiological, chemical, and explosive hazards
  • Nuclear Safety Principal Analysts: Knowledge of managing safety cases across various industries, particularly in nuclear and high-hazard environments
