Service Care Solutions is seeking enthusiastic and committed individuals to become part of our Families First team as Child and Family Support Specialists within the Children in Care and Care Leavers Service.

This position plays a crucial role in promoting the welfare and growth of children and young individuals in care by ensuring they sustain positive and secure connections with their families.

As a Child and Family Support Specialist, you will act as the primary professional responsible for overseeing and facilitating family interaction sessions, prioritizing the best interests of the children, and ensuring these engagements are conducted in accordance with legal requirements and the children's preferences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the appointed lead worker for looked-after children, ensuring their safety during family interaction sessions.
  • Collaborate with social work teams to provide and manage high-quality family interaction experiences.
  • Conduct and supervise family interaction sessions, ensuring a positive and secure environment for all participants.
  • Maintain precise and comprehensive records of family interactions, addressing any child protection concerns or health and safety issues.
  • Engage in regular supervision, line management support, and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and effectiveness in the role.
  • Work flexibly to accommodate the varied scheduling needs of family interactions, including afternoons, early evenings, and occasional weekends.
  • Assist in the completion of life story work, supporting the child's identity needs as per their individual care plans.
  • Ensure all interactions and administrative tasks are documented in the children or young people's records, maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of all information.
Qualifications

  • Minimum of an NVQ Level 3 in Social Care, Child Development, or equivalent qualification.
  • DBS clearance is mandatory.
  • Ability to converse at ease with customers, providing accurate and clear advice in spoken English.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with children, young people, and their families/carers in accordance with national and local guidance.
  • Ability to manage a balanced workload, responding to the needs of children and families promptly and effectively.
