Shift Leader Job Description

We're seeking a highly skilled and motivated Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will be responsible for leading a team of retail professionals in a fast-paced environment where no day is the same.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts and coordinating a team to deliver a clean and full store that exceeds customer expectations.
  • Provide on-the-job coaching and feedback to team members to improve service and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor and manage store performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing practical actions to address them.
  • Ensure the store is always clean, tidy, and well-presented, and that all decisions are made with the customer, colleagues, and safety in mind.
  • Support the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community, and charity events, creating a great inclusive atmosphere.
  • Proactively manage queues in store to deliver a great shopping trip for customers.
  • Be knowledgeable about the store and coordinate others to deliver practical actions to make improvements.
  • Look for ways to simplify operations and share ideas with the Store Manager.
  • Resolve colleague queries in the absence of the Store Manager or escalate them to the Store Manager where necessary.
  • Ensure the store is staffed appropriately, reacting to short-term absences/sickness by actively finding cover for shifts.
  • Be a recognized Keyholder for the store, attending alarm call-outs where necessary to ensure the safety and security of the store.
  • Monitor and action internal communications, ensuring messages are actioned in a timely manner and all colleagues are kept informed.
  • Coordinate colleagues to meet the needs of customers and the operations of the store, feeding back to the Store Manager any issues with colleagues in the building during shifts.
  • Balance time across service and replenishment areas of the store.
  • Support the Store Manager in managing absence within the store, ensuring return-to-work interviews are conducted for CSA colleagues and absence triggers reported and acted upon in line with the One Stop absence policy procedures.
  • Build meaningful relationships with the Area Manager and People Partner, ensuring you have the knowledge, ability, and confidence to escalate relevant issues in a timely manner, seek out advice and support when needed, and benefit from in-the-moment coaching opportunities.

We operate as a separate business from our Head Office, also known as Store Support Centre in Brownhills, Walsall, West Midlands, and we service our stores from three distribution centres in Brownhills, Nursling (Hampshire), and Wakefield (West Yorkshire).
