Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Physiotherapy Specialist in Neuromuscular Care to join our esteemed team at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. This role presents a unique opportunity for a skilled physiotherapist with a focus on paediatric neuromuscular conditions to take on a leadership position within our dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments for children and adolescents with various neuromuscular disorders. Utilizing advanced knowledge of evidence-based practices, the post holder will develop and recommend tailored treatment plans for local physiotherapy practitioners. Additionally, this role involves leading the clinical physiotherapy team, providing expert guidance, clinical mentorship, and overseeing the operational aspects of the team. Collaboration with the neuromuscular physiotherapy team, multidisciplinary team (MDT), and service leadership will be essential in enhancing the physiotherapy service.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Required

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Physiotherapy
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
  • A higher degree or relevant postgraduate training
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in both clinical and leadership capacities

Desirable

  • Membership in the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and relevant clinical interest groups

Experience and Knowledge

Required

  • Extensive postgraduate experience in paediatric physiotherapy, particularly in a leadership role within a specialized service
  • Experience managing a neuromuscular caseload, including complex cases with multiple needs
  • Familiarity with diverse client groups across various care settings
  • Proven ability to represent physiotherapy in a multidisciplinary care environment
  • Experience in applying physiotherapy practices in multicultural contexts, promoting inclusivity and anti-racism
  • Previous involvement in specialist neuromuscular services
  • Skills in gait analysis, orthotic prescription, and contracture management
  • Understanding of professional development, NHS reforms, and child protection issues
  • Experience in teaching or training others

Desirable

  • Experience working with children and families in various settings, including community MDTs and educational environments
  • Leadership experience in clinical research, audits, or service development initiatives
