Job Overview

Specialist Physiotherapist focused on clinical outcome assessment for neuromuscular disease research initiatives

This role is designed for a dedicated clinical trials evaluator in the field of neuromuscular disorders, ensuring a high level of assessment and documentation that adheres to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards. The successful candidate will be required to follow trial protocols meticulously and complete all necessary training pertinent to each study. Collaboration with the trials team and associated clinical research facility staff is essential.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to engage in a highly specialized physiotherapy role within a multidisciplinary team, focusing on the screening and monitoring of patients involved in clinical trials and natural history studies. Familiarity with standard clinical trial outcome measures related to muscle strength and function is expected.

Key Responsibilities

- Coordinate patient visits for clinical studies and trials
- Serve as the lead clinical evaluator for sponsored clinical trials and natural history studies
- Collaborate effectively with team members involved in clinical trials to ensure seamless transitions
- Prioritize patient safety at all times
- Uphold the highest standards of clinical trial governance
- Stay updated with trial-specific training, including GCP and outcome measure training
- Ensure precise documentation and secure storage of all trial data
- Upload trial data to the electronic clinical trial record
- Maintain confidentiality of trial participants
- Provide training to other physiotherapists on trial outcome measures
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Job Responsibilities

The post-holder will work closely with the established neuromuscular physiotherapy team, focusing on research activities under the guidance of senior professionals, primarily to enhance the physiotherapist's expertise as a clinical evaluator in clinical trials. Current studies include trials for various neuromuscular conditions.

The successful candidate will also collaborate with the neuromuscular team, taking a physiotherapy lead for young adults transitioning from pediatric care. This role involves working closely with all team members to develop innovative treatments and care pathways for patients with specific muscular disorders.

The CNMD is a nationally recognized clinical center dedicated to patients with neuromuscular diseases, led by a dynamic group of consultants who assess and treat numerous patients annually.

There is a broad referral base, both locally and nationally, with specialized clinics operating weekly, supported by a growing multidisciplinary care team.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Required

  • Degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy
  • Registered Physiotherapist (HCPC)
  • Prior experience in the NHS

Preferred

  • Postgraduate qualification
  • Membership in the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP)

Experience

Required

  • Minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience
  • Previous involvement in research and/or clinical trials
  • At least 2 years of specific experience in neuromuscular conditions
  • Evidence of participation in audits and training programs.

Skills and Competencies

Required

  • Ability to work autonomously at a specialist level within neuromuscular disease.
  • Capability to supervise staff accountable to the post-holder
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Strong written communication skills, including accurate record-keeping
  • Effective oral communication skills with patients and healthcare professionals
  • Proficient IT skills
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety and risk management policies
