About the Lead Credit Risk Manager Position

We are collaborating with an innovative digital banking institution aiming to expand and enhance their teams across various sectors. This role is pivotal in overseeing and managing the credit risk functions of the organization, including acting on behalf of the Head of Credit when necessary. Responsibilities include evaluating credit applications, ensuring that collateral is appropriately secured, and providing assistance with regulatory compliance.

The successful candidate will ensure that lending practices are grounded in sound commercial principles, prioritizing customer-centric approaches while achieving the organization's strategic goals. This role is supported by a framework of effective controls that facilitate the assessment, management, and mitigation of risk.

As Lead Credit Risk Manager, your key responsibilities will encompass:

  • Executing the credit lending strategy in alignment with the organization's risk appetite, credit policies, and governance standards, ensuring that the expectations for professional conduct and ethical values are upheld throughout the credit risk department.
  • Maintaining high lending standards and practices, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and guidelines, including customer affordability assessments, regulatory principles, and fair treatment of customers.
  • Collaborating with team members to implement decisions made by the Board and Committees while contributing meaningfully as a team member.
  • Exercising personal sanctioning authority with care, ensuring that documentation and risk assessments clearly outline the risks associated with credit extensions, along with well-reasoned recommendations for credit decisions.
  • Regularly reviewing existing credit transactions, assessing payment histories, purchase behaviors, credit agency reports, and security evaluations to inform recommendations for credit rating renewals.
  • Ensuring that all credit transactions submitted for approval meet the necessary credit sanctions and limits, with all required documentation completed and security measures properly executed.
  • Monitoring default trends and, when necessary, engaging in recovery efforts, collaborating with relevant committees and legal advisors to optimize recovery strategies.
  • Engaging with sales teams and distributors to enhance the customer experience.
  • Participating in ongoing professional development to achieve both business and personal objectives.

Essential Skills and Experience for the Lead Credit Risk Manager Role:

  • Educational background in a quantitative field or equivalent professional experience relevant to the role.
  • Experience in SME/Corporate lending and credit risk within a banking or asset lending environment.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Credit Risk or Lending, with a focus on analyzing and interpreting financial data from diverse sources.
  • Experience working within a tiered mandate structure and holding a lending mandate.
  • A proactive self-starter with a strong work ethic and a flexible approach.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, capable of effectively engaging with Committees.
  • Solid understanding of Credit Risk and Lending practices in the banking sector, preferably with insights into the Agricultural industry and its various funding options.
  • Knowledge of risk appetite and risk management frameworks.
  • Familiarity with compliance and banking regulations, including Conduct Risk, and a commitment to delivering fair outcomes for customers.
  • Proficiency in relevant lending systems and familiarity with Credit Reference Agency products.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and reporting.
