Community Cancer Awareness Worker

This is an exciting opportunity to join Carlisle Healthcare as a Community Cancer Awareness Worker, working as part of the Primary Care Services North Cumbria Project Team. The role is hosted by Carlisle Healthcare PCN on behalf of Primary Care Networks across North Cumbria.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver a range of community-facing cancer awareness campaigns and interventions to drive improvement in cancer outcomes, especially via earlier diagnosis.
- Coordinate the North Cumbria (volunteer) cancer champions to attend events and support the raising of awareness.
- Work across North Cumbria, utilising a shared approach and data to identify and target communities and populations who are most in need of interventions to address health inequalities.
- Use evidence-based approaches to reach target communities, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
- Utilise the support of the Northern Cancer Alliance (NCA) and contribute to the peer support networks they facilitate.
- Be directed in your approach by the Northern Cancer Alliance (NCA) workplan in order to contribute to their objectives around early diagnosis of cancer.
- Work closely with the Primary Care Network cancer engagement lead in North Cumbria to support initiatives to directly improve screening uptake and early diagnosis of cancer.
- Continually evaluate your approach, learn from what is working well (and not) and be adaptable and flexible in your approach.
- Ensure that your resource is utilised according to the size of the populations served.
- Keep up to date with current health promotion trends and local and national campaigns.
- Build relationships with local community organisations, Primary Care and other organisations to work in collaboration supporting people to access the right services and support at the right time.
- Produce monthly reports detailing feedback, activity and reach, including case studies.
- Ability to regularly travel within the region.
- Ability to work flexible hours/out of hours as required, including evening and weekends.
- Hold full current driving license with business insurance on the vehicle being used to travel in for work-related purposes connected to this role.
- English and Maths at GCSE (or equivalent) at grade C or above.
- Full driving license/own car and business insurance applicable to the role and is able to travel independently in and around North Cumbria.
- Desirable: Training/community engagement/health/behaviour change experience.
