Gastroenterology Consultant with Internal Medicine Expertise

We are pleased to announce a remarkable opportunity for a Gastroenterology Consultant with a focus on General (Internal) Medicine at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW). The primary location for this role will be Weston General Hospital, with the potential for collaborative work across various sites as we strive for comprehensive clinical service integration.
This position is structured as a 10 PA role, although applicants interested in alternative session arrangements are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will participate in the current consultant on-call rota, which operates on a 1:11 basis. Candidates must possess GMC Specialist Registration or be within six months of their CCT, with NHS experience being preferable. Non-UK applicants seeking specialist registration may also be considered on a temporary basis.
Key Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will be expected to cultivate special interests that enhance the gastroenterology services available at Weston, while also supporting the ongoing development of departmental services. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting two general gastroenterology clinics weekly.
- Assisting with both upper and lower endoscopy procedures within our JAG accredited endoscopy service.
- Managing inpatient responsibilities for the gastroenterology ward on a rotational basis (1:3).
- Participating in the emergency endoscopy rota (1:6) and the G(I)M on-call rota during out-of-hours.

Person Specification:
Essential qualifications include full and specialist registration with the GMC or eligibility for specialist registration within six months of the interview. Candidates should demonstrate a comprehensive training background in the relevant specialty, with evidence of competence in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Clinical Knowledge and Skills:
Applicants must possess up-to-date knowledge and experience in the specialty, along with skills in upper and lower endoscopy. A positive approach to clinical governance and participation in continuing professional development is also essential.
