About the Role

NHS England is seeking a highly motivated and experienced communications professional to join our team as a Senior Communications and Engagement Manager. This is a rare opportunity to work as part of a small, hard-working team to provide support and advice on media and reputation management, as well as building strong relationships with colleagues at national, regional, system, and provider levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert engagement and communications advice and practical support to the region on all aspects of their business.
  • Produce a broad range of written communications to the highest standard, using expertise and experience to identify the right channels and styles for specific audiences.
  • Develop engagement and communications for specific projects/campaigns and manage their effective implementation.
  • Support colleagues and work across the region and the NHS England national media, briefings, and FOI teams to gather information and intelligence to ensure effective region-wide and national responses to the media and other stakeholders.
  • Manage local media inquiries and campaigns.
  • Maintain excellent contacts and relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Training or significant work-based experience in project management or supporting change management.
  • Education to masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in a specialist area.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment, delivering against competing priorities and deadlines while also directing the work of teams/individuals.
  • Experience of managing complex media enquiries and stakeholder issues in a communications role.
  • Experience of providing a high-quality communications service during a crisis/major incident.
  • Good understanding of varied communication channels, their impact, limitations, risks, and opportunities, and good experience in their use.
