Position Overview:

In light of an upcoming retirement, Meridian Medical Limited is on the lookout for a seasoned Injection Moulding Technical Manager. This role is pivotal in guiding and overseeing the Moulding Production team, which consists of 21 skilled individuals working in both day and night shifts. The successful candidate will be tasked with the strategic planning and organization of the Class 8 cleanroom mould shop, which is equipped with 12 injection mould machines, including renowned brands such as Fanuc, Engel, and Boy. Key responsibilities will include team management, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, overseeing tooling maintenance, and upholding high production standards.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Team and Production Oversight:
    • Direct daily operations of the Moulding Production team.
    • Evaluate team performance, focusing on training, health and safety, attendance, and leave management.
    • Collaborate with management to identify and resolve production challenges.
    • Partner with the Managing Director to implement and advance the Mouldshop improvement strategy.
    • Enhance production team efficiency through ongoing coaching and support.
  2. Tooling Oversight:
    • Supervise all aspects of mould tooling maintenance and servicing, coordinating with external suppliers.
    • Serve as the primary contact for customer tooling inquiries.
    • Manage quotations and supplier relationships for new tools and repairs.
    • Ensure timely delivery of tooling from suppliers.
  3. Quality Assurance and Compliance:
    • Support initiatives aimed at quality management, waste reduction, and environmental sustainability.
    • Ensure production areas meet necessary certifications.
    • Work in conjunction with the Health & Safety Manager to fulfill health and safety obligations.
  4. Project and Process Enhancement:
    • Engage in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) for new components and tooling.
    • Apply lean methodologies (e.g., 5S) to optimize production processes.
    • Maintain low scrap levels in production.
    • Ensure adherence to production timelines and deadlines.
  5. Client Relationship Management:
    • Foster positive customer relationships and manage inquiries professionally.
    • Travel to client locations as necessary.

Qualifications and Skills:

Education:

  • Demonstrated experience in Toolmaking, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in injection moulding tooling management or manufacturing.
  • Proven leadership experience within an injection moulding environment.

Skills:

  • Expertise in lean methodologies (5S).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of injection mould tooling, tool making, and the plastics sector.
  • Proficient in CAD software and project management tools.
  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to interpret CAD data and manage project planning.
  • Exceptional customer relationship management skills and telephone etiquette.
  • Valid driving license with the ability to travel to client sites.
