About Us: The adult haemophilia and benign haematology service at Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre has seen significant growth in recent years. We are recognized as the designated Regional Centre for Haemophilia, TTP, and ITP, providing comprehensive care for bleeding disorders in the Bristol and South West Region.
Role Overview: The Ophthalmic Technician plays a crucial role in delivering a holistic and integrated service, offering support to patients and their families affected by haemophilia and benign bleeding disorders. This support spans from diagnosis and transition from pediatric services to discharge and end-of-life care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage effectively with patients and their families, from young adults to end-of-life care.
- Actively participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
- Contribute to MDT discussions, utilizing independent insights gained from patient interactions.
- Manage incoming calls and email inquiries from patients and professionals, employing strong communication skills. Refer clinical decisions to the team for evaluation.
- Provide telephone guidance and direct patients to additional support resources.
- Communicate and guide patients towards relevant holistic needs-related information.
- Offer supervision to less experienced staff, aiding in their skill development.
- Support the education of staff regarding health promotion needs relevant to these patients.
- Participate in the induction and development of new employees, sharing pertinent information about the role and its interactions within the Trust and with external agencies.
