Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Orthoptist to join our team in the Orthoptic Department at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a comprehensive quality Orthoptic service to patients referred to the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a specialized treatment package for patients with visual field defects.
  • Assess and diagnose patients with complex eye conditions, including glaucoma and other neurological disorders.
  • Provide training and education to patients and their carers on the management of their eye condition.
  • Collaborate with Ophthalmologists and other medical professionals to ensure seamless care for patients.
  • Conduct visual field testing, OCTs, and IOP measurements as part of the glaucoma monitoring service.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest techniques and technology in orthoptics and participate in continuing professional development.
  • Manage and prioritize workload to minimize inconvenience to patients and maximize the smooth running of the Orthoptic and eye clinics.
  • Discuss surgical options with patients and surgeons, and identify potential risks and complications.
  • Provide internal cover for colleagues during periods of annual leave, sickness, and vacancies.

Person Specification:

Education, Training, and Qualifications:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in orthoptics.
  • Self-motivated and able to analyze clinical data and formulate management plans.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
