Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Senior to join our team at Johnston Carmichael. As a Tax Senior, you will play a key role in providing tax advisory services to our clients, working closely with our Private Client tax team and Client Relationship Managers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing Tax Returns
    • Prepare Partnership Tax Returns for a diverse portfolio of businesses
    • Process Tax Return information and prepare Self-Assessment Tax Returns for a diverse portfolio of clients, including trusts
  • Dealing with Tax Queries
    • Deal with loss relief claims, pension charges, and capital gains tax reliefs
    • Liaise with clients and HM Revenue & Customs in relation to basic tax and national insurance queries
  • Administrative Tasks
    • Check statements of account, repayments, and payments, and deal with client queries regarding these
    • Assist the tax teams with general tax administration duties
  • Team Support
    • Provide general support to the wider tax team with their day-to-day tasks, as required
    • Identify and draft tax advisory assignments, such as Capital Gains Tax planning, Inheritance Tax, and Succession planning
  • Leadership and Development
    • Review simple tax returns prepared by tax assistants
    • Plan, schedule, and delegate work to Tax Assistants and students, including developing staff and providing feedback
  • Client Support
    • Provide support to Tax Manager/Senior Tax Manager, who in turn manage the team, by liaising with clients, colleagues, and HMRC

Requirements

  • A willingness to develop your tax knowledge
  • A good level of numerical, written English, communication, and team working skills
