Internal Audit Manager / Assistant Manager

Hays Senior Finance is collaborating with a reputable firm of chartered accountants and business advisors, offering a comprehensive suite of services, including auditing, accounting, taxation, and corporate finance. The firm is seeking to appoint an Internal Audit Manager due to ongoing growth. The realm of internal audit is both diverse and fulfilling, and as a Manager, you will oversee a complete portfolio of general practice clients, assuming full responsibility for client needs with minimal Partner involvement beyond final review. You will manage WIP control, billing processes, and debtor management while ensuring the effective delivery of work within your team, which includes mentoring, conducting team meetings, and performance appraisals. A proactive approach to fee development is essential, as is regular participation in networking and business development events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare files for Partner or Director review, ensuring high-quality standards.
  • Manage your own portfolio effectively, including workforce planning, WIP management, and billing.
  • Anticipate workflow needs for yourself and your team in collaboration with the Partner.
  • Cultivate and enhance client relationships with both existing and prospective clients.
  • Engage in business development activities, including attending new client meetings and networking events.
  • Exhibit strong commercial awareness in fee development and cross-selling specialized services, seeking opportunities to connect with referral sources.
  • Proactively identify avenues to add value for clients.
  • Maintain awareness of current legislation and compliance standards, applying them to client situations.
  • Understand assignment plans, instructions, and time budgets prior to commencing assignments, briefing team members accordingly.
  • Produce high-quality business correspondence, including complex reports and business plans, while delivering value-for-money services to clients.
  • Focus on effective work for valuable clients and address additional work for less profitable clients with relevant Partners.
  • Serve as the primary contact for compliance inquiries from clients within your portfolio.
  • Lead the annual planning process with clients.
  • Generate annual internal audit reports for clients as applicable.
  • Provide fee quotes and estimates within your authority level.
  • Manage scope changes appropriately.
  • Respond promptly to client and credit control inquiries in line with internal procedures.
  • Collaborate constructively with partners and HR regarding team performance, as their evaluations and financial outcomes will be influenced by your feedback.
  • Delegate tasks effectively and mentor the team, including planning, instruction, and review of work, while providing constructive feedback through performance appraisals.
  • Offer feedback to junior and senior team members regarding work quality and performance.
  • Oversee the team, monitoring work in progress and ensuring compliance with work standards.
  • Inspire and mentor the team through effective communication, constructive feedback on assignments, and thorough performance evaluations.

Person Specification:

  • ACA / ACCA / IIA qualified.
  • Proven experience in planning and executing audits of various sizes.
