Mencap is seeking passionate Support Workers to join our incredible team in Bedlington and Ashington.

As a Support Worker, you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of individuals with learning disabilities. You will be working with a diverse group of people, each with their own unique abilities and needs.

We support two ladies with learning disabilities in a supported living service in Bedlington - each have their own bungalow. We also provide enabling support (25 hours per week) for one lady who lives in Ashington.

We are looking for dedicated, caring, enthusiastic and friendly support workers to work with all 3 ladies.

Being a support worker isn't just about making day to day life, it's about having fun Each of these ladies have their own different hobbies. One lady loves to collect items and enjoys annual holidays to Spain. One lady loves to go out on a daily basis, shopping, dining and attending music lessons. One lady loves shopping, visiting charity shops and socialising.

What we're looking for
  • A genuine passion for supporting others.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • A positive and empathetic attitude towards individuals with learning disabilities.
Contract options

Part-time: flexible hours based on availability

Shift times

Some services are 24hr care with sleep ins.

We prepare the rotas at least 4 weeks in advance so you can still plan your personal and social life

Shift patterns are quite varied as staff work within 3 places.

Service 1 shifts are:

8am – 10.30pm and sleep in, then 7.30am-8.30am following morning

Saturday to Tuesday there is also an 8am -8pm

Wednesday to Friday 3pm -8pm

Service 2 shifts are:

7.30am – 3.30pm and 12.30pm – 10pm

Service 3 shifts are:

9.30am – 2.30pm 3 days a week

There is also a sleep-in available where you will receive an enhanced flat rate payment of £ 62.45.

All roles are subject to an enhanced DBS check and suitable references.

Due to the nature of this service, we are looking for female only applicants. This post is exempt under the Equality Act, Schedule 9, Part 1.
