Job Description

The Wine & Spirit Trade Association is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Head of Regulatory and Compliance. This position will be responsible for leading the association's efforts in regulatory and compliance matters, ensuring that our members operate in a compliant and responsible manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Regulatory Leadership: Provide strategic leadership on regulatory matters, ensuring that the association's members are aware of and comply with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Compliance Support: Offer guidance and support to members on compliance issues, including wholesale and retail sales, customs processes, and excise duties.
  • Policy Development: Collaborate with the Policy team to develop and implement policies that promote a compliant and responsible wine and spirit industry.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with regulators, policymakers, and other stakeholders to ensure that the association's views are represented and heard.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with members, regulators, and other stakeholders to ensure that regulatory requirements are understood and complied with.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Logistics Support: Provide support to members engaged in logistics operations, ensuring that they are aware of and comply with relevant regulations.
  • Minimum Unit Pricing: Manage the association's response to the implementation of Minimum Unit Pricing in Scotland and Wales, including its economic impact and practical effect.
  • Deposit and Return Schemes: Support the implementation of Deposit and Return Schemes and Extended Producer Responsibility obligations, ensuring that members are aware of and comply with relevant regulations.
  • Counter-Fraud: Lead on counter-fraud issues that affect the wine and spirit industry, including awareness raising and maintaining contact with interested members and regulators.
  • Primary Authority Partnership: Work with the Head of Compliance to manage the association's Primary Authority Co-ordinated partnership with trading standards.
  • External Speaking: Offer external speaking opportunities to other trade and industry groups, promoting the association's views and expertise.
Requirements
  • Regulatory Experience: Proven experience in regulatory matters, including customs processes, excise duties, and compliance issues.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership skills, with the ability to provide strategic guidance and support to members.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with members, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Policy Development: Ability to develop and implement policies that promote a compliant and responsible wine and spirit industry.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to build and maintain relationships with regulators, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
