Panel Member for Independent Oversight

Are you passionate about maintaining high standards?

Do you have a strong commitment to fostering diversity in public service appointments?

Do you possess experience in senior-level governance roles?

The Greater London Authority is seeking individuals to serve as independent panel members to assist in the appointment processes for Mayoral boards.

The Mayor of London is responsible for a variety of appointments to statutory boards, functional bodies, advisory commissions, and other significant roles. These appointments are crucial as they influence the lives of residents throughout London. Some of these roles require the involvement of an independent panel member, referred to as the 'Independent Element', to ensure that the selection process is equitable, transparent, and open.

We aim to broaden our pool of individuals designated as the 'Independent Element' to create a diverse and skilled team. The diversity of London is its greatest strength, and the Mayor is committed to ensuring that board appointments reflect this diversity. Our independent panel members are expected to advocate for inclusive and diverse boards and demonstrate a genuine commitment to enhancing diversity in public service appointments.

We are looking for qualified candidates who have substantial experience in high-profile public-sector organizations or public appointments at the executive or senior management level, and who can navigate a complex political landscape while upholding standards and providing sound independent judgment.

Commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion

The diversity of London is its most valuable asset, and we strive to ensure that our workforce mirrors this diversity at all levels. We welcome applications from all individuals, regardless of age, gender, gender identity, gender expression, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith, or disability.

We particularly encourage applications from candidates who are Black, Asian, and from Minority ethnic backgrounds, as well as disabled candidates, who are currently underrepresented in our workforce.

We are dedicated to being an inclusive employer and are open to considering flexible working arrangements. We welcome applications from individuals seeking part-time opportunities, as this role is available for job sharing.

We are a Disability Confident Employer, meaning that candidates who wish to be considered under this scheme and meet the essential criteria will be automatically invited for an interview. If you require any adjustments during the application process, we will do our utmost to accommodate your needs. Please reach out to the recruitment team for further assistance if necessary.

Application Process

To apply, candidates are invited to submit an application form, which must include a supporting statement of no more than 1500 words. This statement should detail the relevant experience that qualifies you to serve as an independent panel member, addressing the criteria outlined in the Role Specification.

If you would like to discuss this role further or require information in an alternative format, please contact the recruitment team.
