Systems Software Verification Researcher
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Associate or Senior Research Associate to join our team focused on advancing the field of systems software verification. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research within a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment.
The Challenge:
Systems software forms the backbone of our modern infrastructure, yet it is inherently vulnerable to security flaws and attacks. While formal verification techniques have made significant strides in recent years, bridging the gap between these technologies and conventional systems development practices remains a key challenge.
Our Approach:
The CN project, led by Professors Sewell and Krishnaswami, aims to revolutionize systems software verification by developing a user-friendly and cost-effective approach. CN leverages a separation logic refinement type system for C systems software, the realistic Cerberus semantics of C, and integrates testing with SMT- and Rocq-based verification.
Your Role:
As a key member of the CN team, you will play a vital role in developing and refining this innovative system. Your responsibilities will encompass:
- Contributing to the design and implementation of the CN specification language.
- Developing and evaluating verification techniques for C systems software.
- Collaborating with researchers and developers within the VERSE project, a DARPA-funded collaboration involving leading universities and industry partners.
- Authoring research papers and presenting findings at conferences.
Qualifications:
- A PhD or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field.
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: SMT-based verification, proof-assistant verification (e.g., Coq), separation logic, static analysis, OCaml, relaxed concurrency, C, and systems code.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
