At SWRAC, we are committed to providing high-quality education and employment opportunities for individuals. We are seeking a skilled Careers Advisor to join our dedicated team in Dorchester.

Job Summary:

The Careers Advisor will provide impartial careers information, advice, and guidance to facilitate learners in making informed career and job decisions. The successful candidate will help learners understand their skills, strengths, and opportunities, enabling them to create clear plans for their future.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Provide one-to-one and group careers guidance sessions to learners, using tools such as the Careers Workbook and career websites.
  2. Arrange visits to colleges, universities, employers, and careers events to enhance learners' understanding of career options.
  3. Meet with learners at risk of leaving early to discuss and explore alternative options.
  4. Offer a listening ear and signposting for learners facing various challenges.
  5. Deliver group sessions on introduction to careers, specific careers, CVs, cover letters, applications, job hunting, and mock interviews.
  6. Act as the main contact for learners for 12 months following their end of learning with SWRAC, offering continued careers guidance and support.
  7. Track learners' progress and offer careers guidance or signposting as required.
Recording and Sharing of Information:
  1. Complete Personal Careers Guidance Notes on the IAG7 paperwork and share it with the learner, tutor, and SENCO team.
  2. Record learner contacts, career aspirations, and intended destinations on the Caseload Manager spreadsheet.
  3. Record interventions, outcomes, and areas discussed on the Monthly Report.
  4. Contribute to safeguarding processes as required.
  5. Contribute to EHCP reviews as required.
Quality Assurance:
  1. Prepare student case-studies in text and video formats – two per month.
  2. Contribute to the company Matrix standard assessment and ensure SWRAC maintains the Matrix standard.
  3. Contribute to the meeting of Gatsby Benchmarks.
Working with Others:
  1. Attend local stakeholder meetings as appropriate to the role.
  2. Attend job fairs, careers events, and other networking events as required.
  3. Act as the liaison between SWRAC and stakeholders and supporting organisations in CEIAG and pastoral/social concerns.
  4. Maintain close working relationships with tutors and IQAs to ensure effective and efficient services for learners.
Continual Professional Development (CPD):
  1. Attend careers training opportunities and networking events with other careers practitioners to develop CPD.
Other Duties:
  1. Perform any other duties required by the Management team.

Qualifications: Level 6 Diploma in Careers Guidance and Level 4 Advice and Guidance.

Skills and Competencies: Ability to work with young people with SEND and mental health needs, administration skills, and knowledge of careers options, local third sector opportunities, and safeguarding.

Experience: Experience of delivering impartial careers guidance in a school, college, or adult education setting, working with people with SEND, and using a person-centred approach.

Personal Qualities: Approachable, non-judgemental, excellent communication skills, patient, professional, empathetic, and relationship building.

Job Type: Full-time, part-time, and term-time contract considered (salary pro rata).

Pay: £29,500.00 per year.
